Our Organization

The Lake Country Food Bank is operated by the Lake Country Food Assistance Society. It is a registered charity and a 100% volunteer run organization that serves the Lake Country community. The LCFAS is governed by a board of directors that oversees the operations of the Food Bank and the Lake Country Thrift Store. All proceeds from the Lake Country Thrift Store go directly towards operational costs at the Lake Country Food Bank. The Lake Country Food Assistance Society is a member of Food Banks of Canada and Food Banks BC. LCFB partners with food banks and charities across the valley, as a member of the Helping Through Sharing networking to provide assistance and support where required.

Our History

Founded in 1988, the Lake Country Food Bank has been providing food assistance to those in need due to food insecurity in our community.  LCFB got its initial start by providing Christmas hampers to those in need and gradually grew over the years, to meet the growing needs for food on a year round basis.

How We Operate

Each month, LCFB provides hundreds of hampers to individuals and families in our community. Each family or individual selects the food items they require from a preset list of available items in stock. Clients come to LCFB for their hampers, however, based on volunteer availability, LCFB is able to deliver to those with mobility and health limitations. Due to the perishable nature of some of the food donations, LCFB works with other food banks in the valley. During harvest months LCFB also shares extra produce received with other food banks, non-profit and charitable organizations,

Our Facility

Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the Lake Country community, we received the keys to our new home on Bottom Wood Lake Road in December 2015. The building is owned by the municipality of Lake Country and is leased by the food bank. Hampers have been distributed from this location since March 2016.   In this brand new facility, LCFB is fortunate to have a walk in freezer, walk in fridge, large well lit kitchen and prep room, separate washrooms for staff and clients, two offices for interviewing and privacy, shipping receiving area, client waiting area and overall expanded square footage for a greater capacity to accommodate plenty of stock.

Our Community Partners

LCFB is extremely fortunate to have such wonderful and charity minded community partners. LCFB could not exist without the generosity it receives in the form of food and other donations from dozens of individuals and local businesses each year.  To view the LCFB’s list of current partners, click here.   If you are interested in becoming a community partner or make donations, please contact us.

Our Volunteers

Our work relies entirely on the great efforts and dedication of our volunteers. LCFB has over 60 volunteers, some who have been part of the Lake Country Food Assistance Society for nearly three decades. The volunteers span a variety of ages, experiences and backgrounds, which create a diverse and cohesive team.
